Google Glasses Photos: Sebastian Thrun Snaps Picture With 'Project Glass' Prototype

It's been a busy week for photos of Google Glasses, with two notable Googlers strutting their stuff with the tech giant's upcoming augmented reality computer-specs.

First, here's a photo taken by Project Glass lead engineer Sebastian Thrun posted to his Google+ account with the simple caption "Jasper, my son, and me":

The picture was indeed taken using a prototype of Google Glasses, as confirmed by the official project Google+ page. This isn't Thrun's first Eyeglasses shot: The engineer also took a picture of Charlie Rose using his Glasses prototype during an interview on the venerable newsman's show a few weeks ago.

After months of chatter, Google formally introduced its 'Project Glass' with a brief concept video meant to solicit ideas for what people would like to see such a gizmo do. Google is keeping details of the project secret, with most of the work being done in the company's mysterious Google[x] labs in Mountain View, California.

Much of what we know has come through Thrun and the Charlie Rose interview: Currently, Google's Glasses can take photos, share them to Google+, and compose emails via voice dictation. The Glasses overlay common smartphone applications on a small lens in front of the wearer's right eye; Google co-founder Sergey Brin has shown them off in public, and this week Google Senior Vice President Vic Gundotra posed for a photo as well:

Google has not shared a release date or price for its Glasses, but it has previously stressed that the product will not be available this year.

Google should evolve it's glasses more by adopting a more aggressive methods, in first place AR (augmented reality) and not just displaying it but interact with it , see how there: http://imaginewnext.blogspot.com/2012/05/missing-parts-in-google-glasses-ar.html

Now, along with making it possible for someone to know everything about you and your life, they''ll know exactly where you went all day, every day.

Could beaming your avatar (see video on this page) be used as a drone or droid within the home?

Personally, I have been waiting for something like this for a long, long, time. We all have really. Something like this is the next logical step from super-phones.

I am betting that we'll start to see this stuff built into, or designed to at least look like standard eyeglasses within the next 5 years. It's amazing how far we have come in such a short time.

I am in my late 30's. I met a girl in a bar the other night who confessed that she had never actually seen a rotary telephone. I was shocked (and suddenly felt like a dirty old man).

I prefer my reality augmented by something a little more fun than eyewear :-)

Hmmm... from this video I get that if I want to be detached from the world, have uncomfortable, shallow meetings with friends and spend sunset alone on a roof I should get these. As a status symbol and for tech geeks they could be as hot as the iphone but for real life they very well could go the way of the segway.
