This is not a dust-up between two boys who were equals. This is from a boy who was so intolerant of someone being different, that he used his "leadership" skills to gather up a posse, and HUNT HIM DOWN. When they found their prey - ALL OF THE BOYS THREW HIM TO THE GROUND, SAT ON HIM AND PHYSICALLY RESTRAINED HIM. They made sure that he was OVERPOWERED & HELPLESS!

Did this kid have any idea why this was being done to him?? HIS SCREAMS FOR HELP did not move his attackers! Then, and only then, when he had all the power and the control given to him by these other participants, did he cut the boy's hair. THIS WAS A PUBLIC HUMILIATION.

MITT USED HIS POSITION to gather up these boys, IN A COWARDLY FASHION, since he couldn't humiliate the boy by himself. My dad is the governor - even if I'm caught, there will be no serious consequences! He ABUSED his social position, and that he ENJOYED another person's ASSAULT & HUMILIATION is sadistic!" This wasn't a fair fight - this was Mitt SINGLING OUT someone he perceived as WEAK, and someone WHO WOULD HAVE NO RECOURSE or ability to retaliate! This is what makes it so sick and sadistic, that he targeted the weak and defenseless kid, using his social position as COVER and EXCUSE for acting out his INTOLERANCE. It had everything to do with using a position of power to dominate someone.

Having been to a boarding school (British not US), I'm not sure the school would know. Anyway, in those days there was a don't ask don't tell attitude toward bullying and a huge unwritten rule against "snitching."

The responsibility is with Romney. I'm not saying that some who at eighteen are stupid and callous bullies will not change later on. But you have to examine Romney's attitude toward the 99.999% rest of us, all the workers he made unemployed to make his fortunes and other economic policies to decide if he's changed.

To me he still is a selfish bully.

It seems as though this kind of activity was condoned, particularly when done by those with a great deal of wealth and the "proper" orientation. The more one learns about Romney, the less human he seems. His inability to "remember" the incident is either yet another fabrication or an indication that this behavior was very frequent.

I'm tempted to reply that your attitude is the joke here, but it isn't. Your failure to see that Willard hasn't evolved much from the heartless bully he was as a teenager is as pitiless as the core of the "man" you apparently admire. Tell me something. Has anyone ever drastically cut your hair, or significantly altered your appearance, without you permission? Can you imagine what such an event might do to your self-esteem? Have you any to begin with, that you could post what you did?

"Romney said he didn’t remember the incident". But this devastated Lauber and everyone else remembered and felt remorse years and decades later, but Romney "doesn't remember"?
Big mistake. He shoulda owned up and said "I was terrible to do that, its something I learned from".

Forgive me, but this sounds more like "rape" than it does like "prank."

Not that it is either one of these things, but on a horrific violation to harmless prank scale, this lies FAR closer to the former.

I'm reminded of the movie, "You Again!"  He doesn't get to belittle what he did to that boy!  I remember having to walk home the long way, which took 20 minutes longer, because of the bullies in our neighborhood.  It stays with you!  By the way, one of the bullies is doing time and the other one is 3 times divorced!!! Shock!
