Phoenix-area Man Hits $1 Million Jackpot 6 Times

Man Hits Jackpot

PHOENIX -- A suburban Phoenix man made a lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky guess in a recent multistate lottery game.

An Arizona Lottery spokeswoman says the Glendale man claimed six $1 million prizes after purchasing six Powerball tickets with the same winning numbers late last month.

The tickets were good for a half dozen second-place prizes. And he picked up his $6 million in winnings over the course several visits to the Arizona Lottery's headquarters in Phoenix.

Lottery spokeswoman Karen Bach says the man doesn't want his identity released.

I did the same thing in the UK once, but it wasn't a jackpot, we have the lotto and the Hot Pick, I did the Hot Pick with three numbers which for one line for a £1 you win £450, I did the same three numbers six times and won £450x6, it's a wonderful feeling to win a large amount of money, to make it even better it was christmas eve, I shared it with my family. and it snowed. I gave my last moneys I had in my pocket to a homeless man christmas eve afternoon just after I went in to buy the tickets, infact the homeless guy was sitting just outside the shop, he never asked me but it was the way he looked at me, I've never seen him again.

You have to have a reliable premonition to buy more than one ticket with the same numbers.
If the lottery draw is regulated - the only way you could expect to win with more than one ticket carrying the same numbers; is if you knew the numbers beforehand.
My logic is towards a bonus ball system. Where you could play the same set of numbers and cover a selection of potential bonus balls. If your original selections come right you win with all tickets- but not necessarily with the bonus.

For 10 years, I worked in sales for a major lottery. Believe me, we had our backgrounds checked every 6 months! And although everyone gets to see each drawing, you never see all the people standing there beyond the TV picture, each making sure no one is cheating.

When first hired, we were all told in no uncertain terms, that our image to the public was more important than anything else; that tarnishing that image could hurt our sales forever, and that we would face full prosecution by the state if ANY rules were ever broken; that in fact, we would be made examples to others if we dared breach the trust!

Some say that lottery tickets sell themselves; WRONG! Just let one scandal hit any lottery that involves cheating of any kind, and watch sales plummet!

You may not be able to trust politicians, but you CAN trust lottery employees....we were always held to a higher standard, and rightfully so!

Now, but it will buy you one astronaut...a man barely alive. We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Only the grand prize has to split the total if multiple tickets arise. Second place is done at a flat rate of one million dollars, and his numbers were good for second place.

Lucky (and smart) guy. I considered doing the same thing, but since my numbers never come up, I don't see the point. There is a guy I know who plays Cash 3 here in Georgia and he plays several tickets with 777 on it. When it hits every now and then, he wins multiple times. So for all of you questioning how this could happen, it's really very simple.

False. It's not smart at all.
His chances of winning do not change because he buys more tickets with the same number.
His expected value of winnings increases, but it's still much less than his expected value of losings. His expected value of winning if he had bought many tickets with different numbers is still much higher than his expected value of winning doing what he did.
Example: If he bought 3 tickets with the same numbers or 3 tickets with different numbers. He would expect to lose less money when buying 3 tickets with different numbers. Thus, he is better off buying 3 tickets, each with different numbers. He was lucky only.

He was smart THAT time when he bought the tickets.
