'Smash' Season Finale: 5 Things To Know About 'Bombshell'

Smash Season Finale
A scene from the "Smash" season finale.

"Smash" has come a long way since the days of "Let Me Be Your Star" and the season finale truly reveals the TV show's evolution. In "Bombshell" (Mon., May 14, 10 p.m. ET on NBC), Rebecca Duvall (Uma Thurman) has officially left the musical, leaving Ivy (Megan Hilty) and Karen (Katharine McPhee) in competition for the coveted role once again.

There are guest stars, new songs and flashbacks to days of yore (mainly the daydreamy performances like "20th Century Fox Mambo" and "The National Pastime") and the episode feels more like the "Smash" viewers first met during the first few episodes. We won't reveal who gets the role, but the tidbits below should tide you over. And don't fret, "Smash" will return for a second season on NBC.

  • The fate of a character is in question. There's a cliffhanger, naturally. A character has a Marilyn Monroe-esque moment that is sure to bring some drama to Season 2.

  • Somebody does get the role. Yes, after all the Ivy/Karen/Rebecca twists and turns, a woman takes the stage as Marilyn Monroe. And she -- or he -- nails it. Just kidding, it's definitely a woman.

  • The guest stars return. However, Bernadette Peters and Nick Jonas don't steal the spotlight, which is fitting considering everything the performers of "Bombshell" have been through.

  • There's a new scarf. Eileen sports a new red neck accessory for most of the episode, including during a very wonderful scene (for fans of Eileen and haters of a certain character). For more on the scarves of "Smash," click through the slideshow below.

  • The last song will have you ... 1) On your feet. 2) Crying. 3) Cheering. 4) All of the above? There weren't tears here, but there were some excited giggles and the feeling of being blown away, something that has been missing since the end of the pilot.
