Happy birthday, Valentino!
The Italian fashion designer turns 80 today, proving that retirement doesn't have to mean staying at home watching daytime television. Valentino Garavani has kept busy recently, showing up arm-in-arm with Sarah Jessica Parker to Monday's Met Gala and even discussing a possible Broadway musical about his life (we're really hoping this hasn't gone by the wayside).
Even though he officially retired from the design world in 2008, his namesake label celebrated its 50th birthday this year and still has many of his signatures. From Elizabeth Olsen in Valentino red at the 2012 Grand Chefs Dinner to Shailene Woodley's white gown at the Oscars, Hollywood has stayed loyal to the design house, now in the hands of Maria Grazia Chirui and Pierpaolo Piccioli.
In honor of Valentino's 80th birthday, let's take a look back at his most striking red carpet dresses over the years.
