Mother's Day: 5 Ways To Help Moms In Need

As you share in the delight of your mom opening her gifts given with love this Mother's Day, take a moment to remember those who aren't fortunate enough to do the same.

Across the country and around the world, there are moms who can't afford diapers for their kids and moms who are deployed and won't get to see their husband and children.

What's more, think about the one woman who dies every 90 seconds in the developing world because of maternal health issues.

Homeless Moms
The National Center on Family Homelessness provides support for homeless and at-risk mothers and children by assisting with housing, health, and development. The organization supports locally-based partnerships that tackle homelessness, domestic violence, mental health and more.

Moms at Risk for Poor Maternal Health
Raise awareness about the girls and women who die each year during pregnancy and childbirth. One woman dies a preventable death in the developing world every 90 seconds due to maternal health issues, and pregnancy is the No. 1 cause of death in women 15-19 years old in the developing world, according to Every Mother Counts. The organization asks people to fight for improved maternal health by signing a pledge, contributing to building health clinics, donating a phone or sharing a story.

Moms With HIV/AIDS
Nine out of ten children living with HIV acquire the infection through pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding, according to the Global Fund. Help decrease the number of children contracting HIV in one of these ways by supporting programs with a focus on maternal and child health.
