Bristol Palin Receives Death Wishes Over Obama Blog Post

Bristol Palin

Bristol Palin has received death wishes in response to a blog post she wrote about President Obama's gay marriage announcement last week.

In a new post, Bristol shares a screen grab from some of the blog comments that did not make it up on the site. There are a couple of "kill yourself" requests, a "you're an argument for abortion" and worse. One commenter wishes death upon the whole Palin family.

"You all, including your son, deserve a slow, painful and miserable death," the commenter wrote. "Your backwards thinking is so sad because the world is moving forward and you will certainly be left behind. May death be upon you."

At issue was Bristol's take on Obama's decision to support gay marriage. Last week she criticized him for being influenced by his wife and daughters on the issue:

While it’s great to listen to your kids’ ideas, there’s also a time when dads simply need to be dads. In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.

In Monday's post, Bristol defends her position and bemoans the vitriol that it has unleashed.

"Around Hollywood, there’s lots of concern and great initiatives to try to encourage more kindness in this world. Then why do I get so many messages telling me I should die?" she writes.

She goes on to say that bullying doesn't work, and that readers can "keep sending the hate" because "we’ll keep thinking for ourselves no matter what you call us."

Below, some reactions to Obama's announcement:

  • Mitt Romney

"I believe marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman," Mitt Romney said.

  • Kyrsten Sinema

  • Daniel O'Donnell

  • Kirsten Gillibrand

  • Jeff Merkley

  • Elizabeth Warren

  • Michael Bloomberg

"This is a major turning point in the history of American civil rights," said New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg. "No American president has ever supported a major expansion of civil rights that has not ultimately been adopted by the American people - and I have no doubt that this will be no exception. The march of freedom that has sustained our country since the Revolution of 1776 continues, and no matter what setbacks may occur in a given state, freedom will triumph over fear and equality will prevail over exclusion. Today's announcement is a testament to the President's convictions, and it builds on the courageous stands that so many Americans have taken over the years on behalf of equal rights for gay and lesbian Americans, stretching back to the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village."

  • Jerrold Nadler

"I applaud President Obama for announcing his support for marriage equality today," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) "For the first time in this nation's history, a sitting president has shown the courage and leadership to stand up for all American families by pledging to support the fundamental right of every person to marry the person they love, and to have that marriage fully respected. I commend President Obama for this brave and honest step. Those who seek to politicize civil rights for personal or political gain will certainly attack him, but the course toward marriage equality and justice is the correct and inevitable path."

  • Brad Lander

  • Fred Karger

"I'm thrilled!" longshot GOP presidential candidate Fred Karger told HuffPost, referring to Obama's embrace of marriage equality. Karger is the first openly gay Republican or Democrat to run for president. "The Karger pressure has worked," he joked. "Particularly after the defeat in North Carolina, we welcome him to the full equality position."

  • Vince Gray

  • Martin O'Malley

  • Sen. Jeanne Shaheen

  • Barack Obama

  • Mark Udall

  • Senator Chris Coons

  • Rep.George Miller

  • Jim Himes

  • Nancy Pelosi

  • Nita Lowey

"I have been blessed to have a long and happy marriage. I strongly believe all Americans deserve that same opportunity," said Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.)

  • Antonio Villaraigosa

  • Jackie Speier

  • Michael Steele

  • Dennis Kucinich

  • John Brunner

  • Cory Booker

  • Chris Gregoire

  • Fred Karger

  • Ted Strickland

  • Jared Polis

  • Reince Priebus

"While President Obama has played politics on this issue, the Republican Party and our presumptive nominee Mitt Romney have been clear. We support maintaining marriage between one man and one woman and would oppose any attempts to change that," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

  • Debbie Wasserman Schultz

  • Chellie Pingree

  • Christine C. Quinn

  • Mike Huckabee

"Barack Obama just announced he supports same-sex marriage," Mike Huckabee wrote in a fundraising appeal to supporters. "Nancy Pelosi immediately jumped on the announcement and emailed Democrat activists nationwide promising to continue their fight. This is going to be a defining issue this election. Obama, Pelosi and the Democrats have been a complete failure on economic issues so now they are going to focus on issues that will rile up their base. Well, Mr. President it's going to rile up our folks also. Men and women who support traditional marriage."

  • Rep. Bill Taylor

  • Deval Patrick

  • Frank Lautenberg

"President Obama's support for marriage equality marks an important moment for civil rights in America," said Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), who co-sponsored legislation that would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). "We simply can not treat same sex couples as second-class citizens in our country. Marriage equality is one of the most significant civil rights battles of our time and is critical to guaranteeing the equal protection under the law promised to every American in the Constitution. The President's support for marriage equality should inspire Congress, Governors and state legislatures to advance civil rights for all Americans."

  • Allen West

  • Ann McLane Kuster

  • Sen. Patrick Leahy

  • Peter Welch

"This is an historic moment and I applaud the President for his decision and courage," Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) said. "One of the greatest and most liberating human emotions is acceptance. And what the President did today was accept that the quality of love two people share is more important than their gender. The President's decision required him look within and engage his heart. It is truly wonderful and welcome news."

  • Senator Patty Murray

  • Steve Rothman

"As an early and strong proponent of Marriage Equality, I am very happy that President Obama has made this announcement," said Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.) "Marriage Equality is a matter of basic human rights and all of America's same-sex families are now closer to having their unions recognized by our government. This is an important step in our country's march toward achieving true justice and equality for all."

  • Chuck Schumer

  • JackieForNH

  • Howard Dean

"President Obama's public support for marriage equality is an historic affirmation of the fundamental American value of equal rights for all," said Howard Dean. "Having signed the nation's first law allowing Civil Unions as Governor of Vermont, I'm also proud to see our president affirm the belief that I and so many other Americans hold: loving and committed couples should have the same benefits that are extended through marriage. Marriage equality is a right and a benefit to all families."

  • Mike Quigley

  • Senator Ben Cardin

  • Sen. Barbara Boxer

  • Senator Dick Durbin

Like mother, like daughter. Stupid, idiotic remark: "Ideally father's help shape their kids' world view" says Bristol. Can she not see that is exactly what he "is" doing. I am certain that the "world view" of the Obama children, after this conversation with their father, is something like: "Even though we are "children" what we think matters in our family" = We are respected. I am sure that tolerance is also a part of the Obama girls' approach toward others: We don't have to agree with the concept, we just have to understand that individuals are what this"world" @ Bristol, is made of; not clones.

And a question. Of whom is this "we" that "in general [knows]" comprised?

I like to post a thought to ponder on:

If Obama is letting his kids influence some of his decisions, then who else has been influencing our President? Really make you wonder?

Stand your ground, girlie. It's a small group of hateful and bitter souls who fantasize about such evil things.

Everyone is flawed, has personal issues, carries baggage, etc., but good people don't try to justify their short-falls and bring others down to feel better off - instead, they humbly recognize their short-falls, admire good examples, try harder, and always try to promote the right thing in word and deed. That's a quality you have that these ill-wishers do not.

I don't wish any ill will on this second generation Palin ''victim'', however, I do wish she and her vicious mommy would just go quietly into that good night.

What about single parents are they bad too?
05:00 AM on 05/18/2012
They are if they intentionally subject their children to bad situations and bad examples.

Is she implying that "Hollywood" is sending her threats?
08:41 PM on 05/15/2012
I do not for a minute believe that Bristol got death threats. I think her mother (aka Lou Sarah) and her ghost writer Nancy French (paid by SarahPac) wrote them to perpetuate her victimhood.

Please stop this daily reporting of everything French blogs in Bristol's name.

Tell that to the 12 year old who got death threats after witnessing against the movement in a completely respectful manner last year before SSm was ushered by Judicial fiat in one more state, or are you forgetting the recent string of church vandalism by the organization Angry Gays, or the ongoing domestic abuse going on in LGBT homes. Sorry but they are not as helpless, tolerant, or harmless victims as the media strives so hard to depict them as.

Awww poor baby! Welcome to the real world, Bristol. This is what happens when you dabble in political opinions that don't jive with the rest of the population. Surely mommy warned you about this.

My sense is that people who support Obama do not do this or stoop this low. It's not typical of the Obama supporters collective non violence psyche.

Obama made a great move and it will change history. I thought about his support of gay marriage and I realized he might've said this to himself. Gay people have been here since I was born, they will be here long afer I'm gone. Let me open the doors now and show that I am tolerant, and that we all should be because gay people are not going to magically disappear. Me personally, I didn't support it in the beginning but then I realized I can and will tolerate it. I do believe these people care for each other, so give them a way to show it. I say gay marriage should be just that...."gay marriage". It's not the same as marriage, its different. It's two people of the same sex, and as far as I know that's different than "marriage", which is normally between two people of the opposite sex. Marriage is marriage and gay marriage is gay marriage. No big deal, there's more important things to worry about in life than gay marriage. Ok now that that is over, who's the next group of people us Americans are going to pick on?

Let's get one thing clear about "flip-flopping". That is when a politician changes a stance on something to curry votes, and almost always involves changing from a less popular position to a more popular one, solely to pander to the majority. Obama did the reverse. It's a much harder and more courageous thing to do.

It's not a flip-flop. it's a polf-pilf.
