Carolyn Murphy Tattoo On Vogue Germany Cover Grabs Our Attention (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Do Tattoos Belong In Fashion Shoots?

As far as accessories go, tattoos are a fairly omnipresent one. By some accounts, at least 15 percent of Americans boast some body ink (including congress members!). So why are there so few tattoos in fashion?

The thought occurred to us as we gazed at Vogue Germany's June 2012 cover, which features Carolyn Murphy and her oversized upper thigh tattoo. The design is of a koi fish, one Murphy has shown off several times in the likes of Vogue.

But a large tattoo like Murphy's is a rare sight. When Megan Fox appeared on the cover of Grazia France last month, the mag airbrushed away a portion of her ink, a large Nietzsche quote on her back.

Many loved it -- but if that's the case, why don't we see more tattoos in shoots? Certain models, like Erin Wasson, are known for their ink; but we bet you didn't know that Kate Moss, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Chanel Iman, Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, Freja Beha Erichsen, Jessica Stam, Lily Cole and Lily Donaldson all have tattoos, too.

Should the fashion industry lay off the Photoshop and get acclimated with models' ink? Or are tattoos a distraction in otherwise elegant fashion shoots?
