NEW YORK — Dan Stevens, who is currently shooting the third season of "Downton Abbey," will be staying posh: He's joining the cast of Broadway's "The Heiress."

Producers said late Sunday that Stevens, who plays the aristocratic Matthew Crawley on the hit PBS show, will make his Broadway debut opposite Jessica Chastain and David Strathairn.

"The Heiress" will open this October at a theater to be announced. The play is based on the Henry James novel "Washington Square" and became an Academy Award-winning film.

It will be directed by playwright and director Moises Kaufman.

Stevens' stage credits include the role of Septimus Hodge in David Leveaux's West End production of Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia" and the Doctor in Tom Stoppard and Andre Previn's "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" at the National Theatre.

I hope they hold the show together.....The Brits are just as bad about canceling good stuff as us Yanks....Still can't believe they cancelled Kingdom-a great comedy with Stephen Fry....

It's a Broadway play, not a TV show, so not subject to cancellation, just to the natural end of its run. (Kingdom was a fabulous little show, I agree--comfort TV at its best!)

I saw Downton Abbey, all two series and I can honestly say: Mr. Stevens, please come to my house and play with me....chess, that is.

What an entrancing looking man. I used to date a model when I was modeling a long time ago, and Mr. Stevens is the spitting image of him.

I wish him success on broadway, even tho so many plays/musicals fail. I don't care, I'd pay to see him, even wear my 4" heels.
