Despite rumors that Lindsay Lohan may be rekindling her romance with Samantha Ronson, sources say Lohan has actually been told to keep her distance from Ronson -- for business purposes.
The New York Daily News reports that Lohan's handlers are urging the starlet to resist reuniting with Ronson while she's filming a Lifetime movie about Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's romance.
Sources tell the paper that the many people with a vested interest in Lohan's career comeback want the press focused on her work, not her romantic life -- which has seen more drama than a soap opera.
"[Lohan's handlers] don't want Lindsay and Sam hanging around each other -- even just as friends," an insider told the Daily News, adding that they want Lohan to remain as "low-key" as possible.
On May 2, the former couple were spotted at New York nightclub Le Baron, looking as cozy as ever. "Lindsay and Sam were whispering and laughing and they left the club holding hands. They didn't care who saw them, and they definitely seem to be back on. It was just like the old days -- they couldn't get enough of each other!" an insider told X17online.
We're still not sure if Lohan is truly committed to a comeback, but she may have actually decided to take her handlers' advice this time. The two haven't been seen together in public since their evening at Le Baron, reports the Daily News.
Lohan and Ronson began dating in 2007, but denied they were anything more than friends for more than a year before finally admitting they were a couple. In September 2008, Ronson called into the radio show "Loveline" and after answering a few questions she handed the phone to Lohan, who admitted the two had been dating for "a very long time."
The pair first broke things off in April 2009, with a dramatic, public breakup that played out on Twitter. "I'm doing this publicly because you and your friends call People magazine... so, you win. You broke my heart. Now go away. I loved you," Lohan tweeted at Ronson.
Lohan and Ronson were rumored to have patched things up temporarily in 2010, and then again in 2011 according to the flirtatious Twitter messages they wrote to each other the day after Valentine's Day, which confirmed they shared a romantic meal. Later Ronson went one step further to confirm their relationship status, tweeting, "watching grey's anatomy-my fav show-@lindsaylohan sleeping next 2 me- should i wake her up to let her know her mom is going on GMA?"
With their long history, it's unclear if Lohan will be able to resist Ronson's charms and focus on getting her career back on track.
