8-Year-Old Boy Falls More Than 20 Feet At Midway Airport

An 8-year-old boy is recovering in a Chicago-area hospital after he fell -- or jumped -- more than 20 feet from a ticketing area at Midway International Airport.

The boy fell from the ticketing area into a baggage claim area below early Tuesday afternoon, the Chicago Tribune reports.

He was subsequently taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, where he was treated for "minor," non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is not being investigated by police as it is believed to have been an accident.

The fall recalls the 2009 death of Lucca Romano, a 15-month-old boy, at Toronto's Pearson International Airport. The boy died after he fell from an upper departures area of the airport to a lower arrivals level.
