Colombian Thieves Rob Internet Cafe But Forget To Log Out Of Facebook (VIDEO)

Two budding burglars in Calima, Colombia, are learning the hard way that Facebook and crime don't mix.

It seems the two aspiring -- and unidentified -- criminals robbed an Internet cafe at gunpoint recently and proceeded to make a clean getaway on a motorcycle, according to MSNBC.

It may have appeared to be the perfect crime, except one of them forgot to log out of the Facebook account he'd checked at the cafe before attempting the robbery.

As you might expect, the police got his address, drove to the criminal's home and took the suspect to jail, Gizmodo reported.

The rise of Facebook seems to have coincided with an increased number of reports of dumb thieves.

In December, Isiah Cutler was accused of burglarizing a market in Pittsburgh with three teens, then posted pictures on his Facebook page showing the suspects mugging with some of the loot.

Last month, Michael Baker of Jenkins, Ky., was arrested for siphoning gas from a police car after he posted a picture of himself committing the crime on Facebook.

No wonder Adam Falk of Mashable is suggesting Mark Zuckerberg make the social network's unique crime fighting potential a major part of the IPO.

Mother Arrested Over Photo Of Baby With Bong
1 of 20
According to CBS News, a 19-year-old Florida mother faced legal trouble after she posted a Facebook photo of her infant appearing to smoke out of a bong. The Florida Department of Children and Families launched an investigation and planned to drug test both the mother and child, despite the mother's protests that the photo was taken as a joke. The photo was sent to a local news station, which contacted the mother for a statement. "If u look at the picture u can see that there is no bowl in the TABACCO (sic) pipe," she wrote in a Facebook message to the news station. "And i took a pic to show one (expletive) person and it was a mistake. I would never ever ever let him get high." According to the Palm Beach Post, the mother is "facing one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a first-degree misdemeanor."

Only ONE of these cases is someone being smart! (Thank goodness that poor little girl was able to get a message out!) WHY post photos/text of yourself online doing things that you KNOW are wrong? YOU WILL BE CAUGHT, morons. And, do not accept friend requests from people you do not know. Also stupid. (The cop one is entrapment, however, and should be thrown out.) The rest... blow my mind at not only the horrible-ness, but the flat out stupidity...

Facebook junkies beware.People who post when they're leaving town and taking pictures posting them letting everyone know where they are is a big mistake. These cameras are a g p s it lets one know exactly where you are every time you take a picture, that is very easily transferred to any would be home invader. When you come back from vacation you might just be greeted to an empty home.Keep your personal business out of F.B.Sometimes those closest to you can be the ones to hurt you also.F B helps connect with old friends and family but one has to be alert to the scams it could bring and be responsible as to the use of it.

I hope these simpletons get what they deserve. I do have a problem with facebook, though. It's founder said, from the get-go, that it was all about information. And he is getting rich on the data he collects from those foolish enough to sign up. Sure, they have settings that supposedly limit access to the information you willingly give up. But then, oops. They make changes to fb security settings, and your info is out there, where anyone can grab it, until you redo your settings.

So go ahead, do your social networking without regard as to what you're putting out there. And if you get burned, the only one you have to blame is you. Be smart. Don't put anything on any of these social networking site that you don't want thrown back in your face later.

facebook people- far too many seem to lack any judgement. sometimes it would be better if you people just jumped off a bridge. with htese new phones you could film it and post it before you hit.

my conspiracy theory is that facebook is a NSA sponsored project. just think they can view you from your own web cam. get your location and you supply them with your coconspiators.

i don't think so but i just annoyed tons of people

We should be thankful that we got dumb criminals, and it's because of them, justice can be served!
02:17 PM on 05/25/2012
*that we have dumb criminals and that is a run-on sentence. The law enforcement has its fair share of stupidity.
03:55 PM on 06/06/2012
Does it freakin' matter how I wrote it on a public forum? The point was that these dumb criminals are getting caught and that justice can be served. It's not hard for your or anyone else to follow. Anyways, you have no right to go around pointing out people's mistakes when you can't even conduct a proper sentence in your own previous comments. It's like calling the black kettle black.

I read an article about stupid criminals a few weeks ago. One guy robbed someone's apartment... and not only decided to check in on Facebook while there, but forgot to log out. Another one, far dumber, robbed someone's house and actually decided to cook some chicken while he was there (he must have really, really liked their kitchen).

You sure can catch criminals on the Internet if you are smart enough. Because some criminals really are dumb, the job should be easy for anyone to do.
