Christopher Ablett Sentenced: Mongols Member Gets Life In Prison For Murder Of San Francisco Hells Angels Leader

Motorcycle Gang Member Gets Life For Murder Of SF Hells Angels Leader

Christopher Ablett, the Mongols motorcycle gang member convicted of murdering San Francisco Hells Angels leader Mark "Papa" Guardado, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Tuesday.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Ablett was sentenced in a federal court in San Francisco by U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg. Ablett was ordered to serve two concurrent life terms plus one consecutive life term. Ablett was convicted of murder in aid of racketeering, assault with a deadly weapon, using a gun in a violent crime and using a gun in murder in February.

Guardado was killed in September 2008 during a bar fight with Ablett. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Ablett traveled to San Francisco to visit a friend and stopped by a bar wearing his Modesto Mongols gear. He was reportedly carrying a foot-long military knife and a revolver with him at the time.

Word got to Guardado, 46, that Ablett was at a bar near 24th Street and Treat Avenmue in the Mission District, wearing a Mongols full-patch vest.

Guardado went to the bar, a fight broke out, and Ablett stabbed Guardado four times and shot him twice, authorities said. […] Ablett turned himself in to police in Oklahoma a month later.

During the trial, Ablett testified that he had acted in self-defense, but the prosecution alleged that he had killed Guardado to improve his standing with the Mongols.

"The defendant killed a complete stranger for no reason other than his membership in a rival motorcycle gang," said U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag to SF Appeal. "This sentence should send a clear message that there is a heavy price to pay for engaging in such a senseless act of violence."
