WASHINGTON -- A Republican official in a suburban Northern Virginia county has moved beyond criticizing Florida pirate festivals for their "invasion" by "radical homosexuals."
Responding to President Obama's recent announcement that his views on same-sex marriage have been "evolving" and that he now supports marriage equality, Loudoun County Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) told the Loudoun Times that Obama's "evolution comment gives evolutionists a bad name":
In an interview May 15, Delgaudio questioned what kind of new species the president has seen evolve from gay marriage.
Commenting as president of Public Advocate of the United States, the Loudoun supervisor said Obama's statements are "demeaning" to traditional male-female couples. By supporting gay marriage, Obama is assaulting traditional values, Delgaudio added.
Public Advocate of the United States is a right-wing advocacy group that reported $1,378,199 in revenue in 2009, the last year for which information is available, according to IRS data available on GuideStar. The organization has been labeled a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Delgaudio took the helm of Public Advocate in 1981.
On Public Advocate's website, Delgaudio further described his complaints against Obama and his support for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney:
It is bad enough President Obama disrespects women, God's values and his own spouse and embraces the all powerful and well funded Homosexual lobby in their insatiable demand for the destruction of marriage. Barack Obama has also abandoned his most loyal supporters as well while claiming to be 'moral'
Public Advocate's other efforts are focused on promoting school prayer, anti-abortion legislation and the Boy Scouts. The group's website also has a poll asking who of the following President Obama should nominate to the U.S. Supreme Court: Dan Quayle, or former presidents George W. Bush or George H.W. Bush.
