Scott Walker Dislikes Job Numbers, So He'll Put Out His Own

Scott Walker Job Numbers

Bloomberg:

When Wisconsin job numbers compiled by the U.S. government were on the upswing last year, Governor Scott Walker traveled to Milwaukee to tout them as proof that he was turning around the state’s economy.
Now that the Bureau of Labor Statistics figures have shown for months that the state is losing more jobs than any other, Walker, a Republican who faces a June 5 recall election, will release his own.

$1 Billion in savings and the erasure of a $3.6 Billion deficit in one year (with a $154 million surplus to boot) proves that Wisconsin is headed in the right direction.
11:40 AM on 05/24/2012
Yes? It is headed to the educational levels of Mississippi. Teacher pay in this formerly high education performing state already had declined significantly over the last 16 years up to 2009. http://news.illinois.edu/news/11/0302teachers_CraigOlson.html

Now Wisconsin teachers are retiring in records numbers. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Education/2011/0916/Wisconsin-teachers-retire-in-droves-after-union-loss-in-bargaining-fight
http://www.care2.com/causes/wisconsin-teachers-retire-en-masse-in-response-to-cuts.html And the reason is not the money. They had already given up the money. It was the insult and it was the lack of a voice.

If Wisconsin Republicans have their way and Wisconsin's children are as dumb as Mississippi's are and no high tech companies want to come to Wisconsin any more and unemployment is systemically high, Republicans will just scratch their heads and wonder why.

"...Wisconsin is headed in the right direction."

Wisconsin has lost more jobs than any other state in the union.
Walker's draconian policies have cost 10,200 people their jobs.
Wisconsin has no future if all of their children are poorly educated.

Democrats love to sieze on "jobs numbers" that are based on a survey sampling as small as 3.5% of Wisconsin employers and they consider that "reliable." Then, when a much more robust survey that includes most Wisconsin employers shows that in 2011 there was actually job growth of 23,000 jobs, they call that "unrelieable." The Democrats are so transparent it is almost laughable. If the Democrats actually manage to steal the recall election, they'll change their tune just as quickly. Hypocrites.

I'm guessing that you did not take a Statistics course in college. The highly trained professionals at the Bureau of Labor Statistics did.
10:03 AM on 05/24/2012
Minimum Job Qualifications at BLS are:

To be a math/stat, you must have
 a bachelor’s degree or higher
 24 semester hours in math/statistics
 at least 12 hours at or above calculus
level
 6 hours in statistics

GS – 7
 Cumulative GPA of 2.95 or higher, OR
 GPA of 3.45 or higher in the major field
of study
GS – 9
 Master’s degree in math or statistics

Let's see how Walker stacks up to those he is critcizing:

Bachelor's in math: Walker fails as a college drop out.
Grade point of at least a 2.95 or above: Walker fails with his C average
24 hours of mathematics: Walker fails with what, maybe 6 hours at best.

And Walker, who couldn't qualify as anything other than a janitor at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. says he knows the "real numbers" Oh sure he does.

Ah, politics. In school I was taught that science and math were, backed by factual evidence as they were, incontrovertable. That if you have the same set of data, pending a miracle, you will arrive at the same results. But in politics, both sides are often allowed to simply invent new methods of performing math, or even invent their own sets of data. A handful of people directing thought for their own gain, and most of us incapable of realizing it thanks to our refusal to let go of our deep-seated beliefs to embrace facts, however much they may make us uncomfortable. Gotta love the way we've abandoned fact in this country.
10:23 AM on 05/24/2012
Both sides are not lying about the statistics here. The Democrats are talking about the numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics honestly. You have given far too much credit to Scott Walker who is just pulling this stuff out of his backside. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-16/walker-dislikes-job-numbers-so-he-ll-put-out-his-own.html

Nice Name, Not. --- I at least had facts. Jobs are up and tax revenue into the govt. is up also. These are undeniable truths. The projections are now $140 + million surplus for the budget cycle.

Yeah...we will have the same robust economy that we had under the Bush/Cheney economic fiasco......when will these RepubliBillys ever learn. OUCH! Kick Me!!!

Laying off people creates jobs and helps the economy. Right. Unemployed people collect unemployment checks (government spending). When that runs out they stop paying taxes altogether. They curtail spending, buying less, go out less, do not contribute to the local economy. Maybe they go on welfare and apply for food stamps, contributing to more government spending. Maybe they get lucky and find a job elsewhere and leave Wisconsin.
06:52 PM on 05/16/2012
Your tired logic falls off the tracks right away. Less people are being laid off now compared to Doyle. Less people are getting unemployment. More money is coming into the govt. Less Govt spending is needed, Lower taxes on businesses (( you probably call them evil rich people)) use their own money to hire people. Less Welfare and Less Foodstamps needed.

Liar...the 10 poorest states per median income and the 10 biggest amount of recipients for entitlements are ALL REPUBLICAN and have been controlled by them for years. So if you don't like subsidizing those on the dole...quit voting for the people who create the poverty that's keeping them eligible to receive it....the RepubliBilly party. The income source is from the US census and the food stamp stats are from the USDA who distribute them. Google it everyone if you don't believe what I'm saying. This is the elephant in the room that the RepubliCONS never discuss. Why would they? They should be ashamed.
04:52 PM on 05/17/2012
Your logic is tired as well. Bush tax cuts sent this country in a downward spiral from it will not recover for many years to come no matter which party is in office. Employers do not necessarily use tax cuts to hire more workers. They just like lower taxes.
You are right about one thing, though. We do need more discipline in government spending, and contrary to what many believe, I do not believe all rich people are evil, but there too many of them and they do not necessarily use their money towards good, especially when they use it to buy politicians of both parties.

Hell no, what suprises me is that they have that many dumb people in Wisconsin who are williing to believe all these political robocalls and redundant political ads which are being shown on TV in Wisconsin. The Koch bros know where to get the most bang for the buck and that's why they choose to back Scotty financially to gain control of yet another easily duped state.

When it comes to job numbers in the state, you have to remember that both sides will have their own version of the story, and it’s hard to really get a totally accurate read of the situation (http://bit.ly/Kotz8q). In the lead up to this election we’ve seen a lot of political gamesmanship at play, in an effort to make numbers appear a certain way. Consider the public sector, we’ve heard a lot about job loss, but a large portion of that is coming from areas where Walker’s legislation is not in place, and unions would prefer it that way so they could make Walker look worse (http://bit.ly/yPR9db).

It's nice to see someone backing up their posts with outside references instead of just political jingoism. My friend... Science Does Work This Way. Faved. The only means to reach a just society is to make relevant data readily available to all citizens, on all issues.
11:12 AM on 05/24/2012
Phil-EA's outside references are both to the exact same unqualified far right wing clown who is nothing but a political hack. The guy lies. And you have been had.

Bloomberg, from which the article came, is at least a competent center right source that at least has qualifications to honest and competent journalism.
11:07 AM on 05/24/2012
Both of your links are to a guest blog of some clown named Christian Schneider, who has no qualifications at all to speak on this subject. A "Political Science" degree and being a contributor to the far right wing National Review is hardly any qualification to speak on anything at all, much less labor statistics.

Note the last line of each article: Here's a reasonable paraphrase: 1. The facts don't really matter; how people feel is what matters. 2. Those teachers they just want to cement their power and they don't care at all about the children they teach.

So that is the brilliant Schneider's argument. Teachers are evil, and don't bother me with facts as I'm too busy lying.

All the job gains happened BEFORE any of Walker's policies went into place.

The month after he stripped rights from the middle class... jobs plunged and haven't recovered.. losing month after month after month.

"State posts largest percentage job loss in U.S. over past year".

The Journal Sentinel newspaper‘s April 24th edition reported the job loss issue on the front page.

http://www.jsonline.com/business/state-posts-largest-percentage-job-loss-in-us-over-past-year-report-shows-ib54utt-148694855.html

The first paragraph states:
“Wisconsin is the only state in the nation that had ‘statistically significant’ job losses over the past 12 months, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.“

It noted:
“The 23,000 jobs lost in Wisconsin was tops among the 50 states; no other state lost more than 3,500.”
