180 Bales Of Marijuana Found Floating In Ocean; Harbor Patrol Confiscates 8,068 Pounds

Posted: Updated: 05/21/2012 3:42 pm

U.S. Coast Guard officers are scratching their heads over 8,068 pounds of marijuana found floating in bales Sunday near Dana Point Harbor in California.

The watery weed -- which a boater found bobbing in 180 bales -- has an estimated street value of $4 million, the Orange County Register reported.

The problem is, nobody knows exactly where they came from.

Border Patrol spokesman Michael Jimenez said it's likely that someone dumped them from a vessel trying to flee from authorities, though no arrests have been made.

"At other events, they've dumped the bales to get rid of weight if they're being chased," he told the paper. "Generally in these cases we're aware they're being dumped. What's more unusual is that the bales were floating with no boat in sight."

After the find, federal, state and local law enforcement were seen moving all the tightly-wrapped and sealed packages from the water to police trucks.

The investigation is ongoing.

Can this be auctioned off to the medical pot business so that the Calif taxpayer and our broke state can get a little more money in our budget? The lottery sure did not solve our school money problems maybe this could help just a little bit! Not needed as evidence as there have been no arrests.

You know if some dealer had gotten his hands on it, he would have given it a cute name like Aqua Bud.

The same thing happened back in the early 80's off the coast of Charleston, SC at night, a ship dumped their bails over the side, and the Coast Guard assumed they could come get them in the A.M….. well….word got around real fast and the next A.M……only a few were found…..gee I wonder what happened ? Leagalize it !!! Remember, the majority didn't want womans rights, free slaves, legalized alcohol or gun ownership….just stop this insanity !!!!
