DomConLA Bondage Convention A Big Hit With S&M Community (NSFW)

Bondage buffs from as far away as Europe and Japan beat a path to Los Angeles this past weekend just for the chance to get beaten.

It's all part of DomConLA, an event now in its eighth year, that allows fetish fans, submissives, and dominants to meet, greet and beat -- if the mood (and the mistress) strikes.

Billed as "America's largest Professional and Lifestyle Domination Convention," the kinky convention was created by a professional dominatrix by the name of Mistress Cyan who was pained by the disparity and disassociation between those involved in Professional Domination and those in "The Lifestyle."

Wanting to do something that would help bridge that gap between the two communities and make it more united, she developed the concept of a convention for the kinky.

It was an instant smash.

This year's Con has its share of exhibitionist exhibitors, as well as seminars on topics of interest to kinksters in attendance, such as one that explains how pain travels through the body, another on how the brain is tricked into perceiving pain as pleasure, a trampling workshop, and a lecture on how to dress like a diva on a budget.

But the biggest hit of the Con is usually the Mistress' Tea where all the dominatrixes gather in a room to put a name to the brace and meet each other while being served tea by submissive men and maids.

The really good looking models are mostly doing shoots for their web sites and clip stores with local producer/directors, not demos on the Domcon floor. My husband and I have a production company and we didn't do a booth this year just so we'd have plenty of time to work with cool out-of-town talent, did 3 shoots in 5 days...

I've been to both DomConLA and DomConAtl. They were ok events with lots of great educational opportunities, but with way too many Pro Dommes running around. Me? I like more leather oriented events such as SouthWest Leather Conference or Thunder in the Mountains. More like a family reunion than anything else.

I'm sure there were folks of many ilks at the convention. Thus, it is unfortunate that many of the Doms in the images above look like serial killers. Because I have so say some of those folks look mighty scary.

Appearances can be deceiving. I've worked with one of the scary Doms (pic #8) a number of times and he's a sweetheart. We also adopted his sister's puppy (she had six dogs and it was too much, long story.) Pup is a Bearnese mountain dog/pit bull mix and the cutest, most adorable dog ever, we and our other two dogs love him.

(I share this story because BDSM people look so exotic but they have a normal side too...)
