As if All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson needed to provide more reasons behind his nickname "Megatron," the Detroit Lions' star put on a show at Comerica Park on Friday afternoon.
Hours before Tigers ace Justin Verlander nearly tossed his third career no-no, Johnson took batting practice and showed his versatility. The new face of Madden 2013 took a few swings and hit a couple pitches to the outfield (one to the warning track), before crushing one over the left-field fence.
It turns out the highest-paid receiver in the NFL has always been a big baseball fan.
"I've played baseball ever since I was five or six," Johnson told Chrissie Wywrot of the Lions official website. "I know more baseball history than I know football history. I've always been a Ken Griffey fan."
