8-Year-Old Boy Killed In Car Collision While Riding Bike

An 8-year-old boy was killed Monday afternoon just days short of his completion of the second grade in Skokie, Ill.

Carter Vo was either riding his bicycle on the sidewalk near the intersection of Saint Louis Avenue and Main Street just before Monday when three cars were involved in a collision and one driver lost control, hitting the boy, Fox Chicago reports.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Carter was pronounced dead nearly four hours later of multiple trauma to his head. His death was ruled an accident.

Nhu Vo, Carter's father, told CBS Chicago that his son loved to bike and was just days away from completing second grade. He loved trains and Legos and had been planning to begin swimming lessons this summer.

"I got him ready for school yesterday, and then that was it," Nhu told CBS.

Fox reports that the boy was inquisitive -- Carter had recently asked his father, "What is heaven like?"

One other individual involved in the collision was taken to the hospital for superficial cuts, Patch reports.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and information has not yet been released concerning whether tickets, citations or charges have been issued.
