SANTA FE, N.M. — A spokesman for New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez says she and her husband were not injured when a small private airplane carrying them to Santa Fe landed without its gears down.

Martinez spokesman Scott Darnell said in a statement that the Republican governor and her husband, Chuck Franco, were aboard a single-engine plane Wednesday night when the aircraft was forced to make a hard landing.

The plane piloted by a local businessman was carrying the couple, who were returning from a campaign event in Tucumcari, and District Attorney Matt Chandler of the 9th Judicial District. No one was injured.

Darnell says the landing gear was lifted when high winds forced the plane to circle the airport and that it failed to deploy when the aircraft finally landed.
