John Edwards Trial Juror Flirting With Ex-Senator

There's some tension in the John Edwards trial -- between the former senator and a female alternate juror.

The alternate, who on Friday wore a "revealing red top with a single strap and and exposed right shoulder," is flirting with Edwards.

ABC News described it thus:

The juror clearly instigated the exchanges. She smiles at him. He smiles at her. She giggles. He blushes.

The flirtation has become so obvious that even Edwards’ attorneys have to work to suppress their laughter at the absurdity of it all.

The female alternate juror isn't the only one behaving oddly -- all four alternate jurors dressed in red on Friday after being dressed in yellow Thursday.

The alternates will not vote on the verdict, which the regular 12 jurors are still deliberating over, unless one of the regular jurors is removed.

Edwards faces six felony counts related to campaign finance violations in trying to cover up the affair with his mistress, Rielle Hunter.

The jury has the following instructions, according to the AP:

To convict Edwards, U.S. District Court Judge Catherine C. Eagles instructed the jurors they must conclude beyond a reasonable doubt not only that the candidate knew about the secret payments made on his behalf, but he knew the cover up was illegal and that he went ahead anyway. Even legal experts with detailed knowledge of federal campaign finance rules are split on whether Edwards violated the law.
