Lexie Adu Dead: Teen Drowns In Lake Michigan Hours Before Lifeguards Start Duty (VIDEO)

Body Of Missing Teen Found In Lake Michigan

Divers have recovered the body of a 15-year-old girl who went missing while swimming at Loyola Beach with friends Thursday.

Lexie Adu, an honors student at St. Scholastica Academy in Chicago, was at the beach with two classmates when all three were swept up in a strong current, according to CBS Chicago. Fire officials called to the scene rescued two of the girls and launched a 13-hour search for Adu, ending after a body was found near a breakwall at 10:45 a.m. Friday.

Adu's parents, immigrants from Ghana, were so distraught by the girl's disappearance, and the news that a body had been recovered, that both required medical attention, according to the Chicago Tribune. Frank Adu, Lexie's father, said the teen hoped to go to college, then medical school.

"She is the first person I have seen that wanted to be a doctor, not just for the money but to do good," Frank Adu told NBC Chicago. "She devoted her life to be a doctor."
