Houla Massacre Survivors Speak Out (VIDEO)

In footage reportedly shot on Monday and uploaded by activists, survivors recount the details of a horrific massacre allegedly carried out by pro-regime gunmen in Houla, Syria.

On Friday, entire families reportedly were shot dead in their homes in poor farming villages.

"They hit my husband with guns until his brains burst out before they shot him," says one woman. "They killed four of my daughters, my sister-in-law and two of her children, my cousin and her four children, my other sister in law and her daughter."

Another woman, seated upright in bed for the video interview, describes being rounded up and trapped by the gunmen.

"They pointed guns at us and trapped us in a room like sheep before spraying us with bullets. They killed my father and brother, he is the only one in family of seven girls," she says. "They did not leave a family without killing one of its members. It was a massacre."

Over 100 people, including dozens of women and children, were killed last Friday. A UN report found that most of the victims were executed.

Activists blame the Assad regime for the massacre.

Assad's government often deploys fearsome militias that provide muscle for the regime and carry out military-style attacks. They frequently work closely with soldiers and security forces, but the regime never acknowledges their existence, allowing it to deny responsibility for their actions.
