Police in White Plains, N.Y., are widening their search for Pierce Crowley, a 15-year-old freshman at Iona Preparatory School, who vanished on May 25.
Crowley and an unidentified 13-year-old friend snuck out of the side door of a New York-Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains last Friday, the Journal News reported.
Newsday reports that the two went to the Cheesecake Factory restaurant together and then hailed a taxi to the White Plains Metro-North train station. Authorities said that the friend took the train to his New York City home, but Crowley remains missing.
According to Fox News White Plains police are now searching for the cab driver who took the boys to the station.
"In an email to friends, [Crowley's] parents wrote that their son was 'in a fragile state' and hadn't been feeling well when he disappeared," MSNBC reported.
The International Business Times reports that "hundreds of volunteers" have joined the boy's family in their search effort, passing out fliers with Crowley's description, and raising awareness of his disappearance via social media.
The Harvard Alumni Association tweeted a message to its subscribers in the hopes that "alumni can aid in the search." Pierce's father, Peter Crowley, graduated from Harvard in 1981.
Celebrities have aslo taken up the cause -- Kim Kardashian posted a description of Crowley to her official Facebook page on May 30.
Crowley has light brown hair, blue eyes and wears braces. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, and was last seen wearing dark jeans, a bright blue “Florida Gators” short-sleeve T-shirt, and black sneakers with lime-green trim.
Anyone with information is asked to call White Plains police at (914) 422-6111. The family also has set up an email account -- findpiercecrowley@ gmail.com -- where people can submit tips.
According to the Journal News, the boy's family is offering a reward for information leading to the safe return of his son.
