Andrew Blackwell, Filmmaker and Journalist, Visits The World's Most Polluted Places (VIDEO)

As far as he knows, he's the world's first pollution tourist. To him, it's kind of like a spin on ecotourism. But, to him, the idea of visiting "rare and special" ecostystems doesn't simply mean ziplining through the rainforest.

"If you care about the environment and you want to see interesting things, you should be interested in holding your nose and seeing ecosystems that are totally challenged and in flux," he says. "And I thought, the world is probably full of these untapped tourist gems that nobody's visiting because they are just too disgusting."

His first stop was Chernobyl, followed by oil sand mines in Alberta, refineries on the U.S. Gulf coast, deforestation in Brazil and more. Perhaps the biggest shock, he found, was just how pleasant some of these places could be.
