Cortez Hooper And Quincy Stewart, Accused Murderers, Recaptured After Arkansas Jailbreak

Accused Murderers Recaptured After 4-Day Manhunt

Two accused murderers who escaped from jail have been recaptured, Arkansas authorities report.

Miller County Sheriff's spokeswoman Vanessa Schaeffer reported that several law enforcement agencies took Cortez Hooper and Quincy Stewart into custody Thursday night without incident, according to CBS News and the Associated Press.

Early Monday morning, the two murder suspects escaped from the Miller County Sheriff's Detention Center in Texarkana, Ark. The two are said to have cut through the window bars of their second-story cell with a hacksaw, then smashed through a pane of glass, Reuters reported.

Schaeffer told Reuters, "They pushed through mattresses to soften their drop to the ground."

Court records show Hooper faces first-degree murder and weapons charges, KWTX reported. Stewart has been accused in a killing in Texas, but he not been officially charged as he was being held on a drug charge in Arkansas.
