'Mountain Men' Series Premiere: Eustace Conway Butchers A Deer For Dinner (VIDEO)

Preparing Dinner The 'Mountain Men' Way

On the series premiere of "Mountain Men," (Thu., 10 p.m. ET on History) viewers were introduced to (mostly heavily bearded) people who have chosen to live "off the grid."

Take Eustace Conway. He lives on 500 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and he is so successful at leading a self-sufficient lifestyle that he trains other people how to do it.

As Eustace said -- while butchering a deer Tywin Lannister-style -- "modern Americans don’t learn how to gather food, store food, grow food. ... There’s a gut pile behind every hamburger."

See more real-life Grizzly Adams types on "Mountain Men," Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on History.
