Barack Obama Maintains Narrow Lead Over Mitt Romney In Florida, Poll Shows

President Barack Obama narrowly leads Mitt Romney in a new poll of likely Florida voters 50 percent to 46 percent, a margin equal to the survey's margin of error, according to results released Tuesday by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.

The poll shows little movement in the state since mid-April, when PPP found Obama leading, 50 percent to 45 percent.

“Florida’s going to be closely contested this fall as it always is,” Dean Debnam, Public Policy Polling's president, said in a statement. “But for now we’re finding Barack Obama as a modest favorite in the state.”

The PPP poll also finds that tapping a Floridian for vice president wouldn't do much to help Romney. A Romney ticket with Sen. Marco Rubio (R) would decrease Obama's lead by only two percentage points, while choosing former Gov. Jeb Bush (R) would narrowly increase Obama's lead, according to PPP. Gov. Rick Scott (R), an unlikelier presence on the ticket, would give Obama a double-digit lead of 52 percent to Romney's 38 percent.

HuffPost Pollster's model now estimates that Obama holds a thin lead in Florida, with 46.5 percent to Romney's 45.3 percent.
