'Colbert Report' Talks Study That Shows Congress Is Getting Dumber (VIDEO)

WATCH: Politicians Are Getting Dumber

The Colbert Report

According to a recent study by the Sunlight Foundation, Congress is getting dumber. What does that mean? After analyzing speeches, their research found that these politicians are speaking at the level expected of a sophomore in high school when, seven years ago, they were performing at junior levels.

On Monday night's "Colbert Report" Stephen joked, "Congress is so dumb that it took them seven years just to be held back a grade."

But what is a sophomore in high school verbal level? Stephen's guess: "A silent language of angry glares at the dinner table between text messages."

To make matters worse, it analysis of the President's State of the Union addresses land him at an eighth grade verbal level.

Whether this means that politicians are actually getting dumber or they're just pandering to a public they treat like idiots is still to be analyzed, but Colbert seems to think that a move back toward the language of our founding fathers is in order.

The flowerier the better.
