Oven Thermometers: Why They're Important And 5 Types To Consider

Unless you have a brand new or regularly calibrated oven, chances are your oven's temperature is not accurate. You may set it to 400 degrees, and it may tell you it's at 400 degrees, but your oven is more often than not giving you false information. It might be off by just a little -- mayby 10 degrees -- but some are off by as much as 100 degrees.

While this might not seem like a big deal -- you can just adjust the cooking time -- you'll be amazed at how much better your dishes taste when cooked at the right temperature. And when it comes to baking, accuracy is everything. Having an oven that's off can destroy your baked goods, and baking is challenging enough as it is, so there's no need to add another hurdle to the mix.

You can easily remedy this problem with an oven thermometer. Thermometers range from basic, inexpensive dials to more hi-tech digital probes.
