The Smartest Man In The World Recording At D.C. Improv: HuffPost DC Top 5 For June 7

TOP 5 PICKS FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 7

1. "The Smartest Man In The World" Recording At D.C. Improv
This "Smartest Man In The World" taping will be a lesson for comics and podcasters alike. Greg Proops fills an hour plus of original material each week. He's the Satchel Paige of comedy podcasts. Though he may not be the most well known at the craft, he's the most honest, original and consistently fun. 10 p.m., 18+, $10

2. Janel and Anthony at Iota
This avant garde classic/indie rock duo and sometimes more is on an aptly named "Where is our home?" tour. Their music sounds timeless and the musicians live like nomads. 9 p.m., 21+, $12

3. 826DC Presents George Pelecanos at Rosemont Seneca Parters
A fun fundraising event for one of D.C.'s finest charities 826, this event will bring novelist, screenwriter, and film and television producer George Pelecanos to town for an intimate evening. 6 p.m., all ages, $100

4. Graphic Details: Confessional Comics By Jewish Women At Washington DCJCC
Graphic as in graphic novels, comic books for people that could care less about spandex. Comics as in comic book artists, not stand ups. Pieces of art from funny, happen to be Jewish women. 6 p.m., all ages, no cover but an RSVP is necessary

5. Ryan Conner At Riot Act
D.C. comic done right Conner is returning home for a one-night only stop at D.C.'s newest comedy club. 8 p.m., 18+, $12

TOP 5 FOR THE NEXT 5 DAYS

Friday, June 8
WildLife at Howard Theatre
A co-production beween Capital Pride and Brightest Young Things, this party will be everything you expect from BYT -- giant blown-up characters, giant characters on blow (maybe), good music, neon, etc. -- in a new forum. It's the first LGBT event at the Howard so it's unlikely that subtlety will reign supreme.

Saturday, June 9
Capital Pride Parade
at Dupont Circle/P Street NW/17th Street NW
The flagship event for the two-week celebration, it's almost mandatory to attend.

Sunday, June 10
Capital Pride Street Festival

A giant street festival on Pennsylvania Avenue NW downtown that happens to be gay friendly. Family but not pet friendly, this event is estimated to be attended by 200,000.

Monday, June 11
Battles
at Black Cat
The members of Battles have been playing in post-rock bands for nearly 20 years, together for 10, yet sound fresher than ever.

Tuesday, June 12
Against Me!
at Fillmore Silver Spring
While Against Me! is just the opening act for The Cult, they're the reason this show should be considered. The recent announcement of Tom Gabel becoming Laura Gabel will change the shape of punk to come for the indefinite future. This is a good thing.
