The public knows that Defense can take a cut without huge or terrible consequences, this is public relations and lobbying to keep the cash flowing and protect the status quo! This has nothing to do about national defense, its, money and politics + peddling fear.

The cuts already made to defense over the next ten years as well as the cuts coming from the sequester will result in significant government layoffs of DoD civilians and a reduction in the number of troops. For those who have been calling for a cut in the number of federal employees, Defense, which has about half of the federal workforce, will be the prime target.

This was going to happen as the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars wind down. All of those no bid contractors and their subcontractor beneficiaries and/or friends will have to find other sources of income other than conflict or war. If the GOP get back into office as POTUS and if they successfully take over the House and Senate they will boost the economy by using terrorism as a national defense strategy to war for the resources of the middle east for their oil and industrial revolution heirs and their investment class cronies. Just as the returning warriors will have to find work in the private sector mostly due to government austerity measures instituted by the Party that brought us this national economic and political crisis.

A year or so ago...Boehner was touring a factory that builds tanks.....it was scheduled to close...we don't use the tanks anymore, don't need them and he rants that the factory shouldn't be closed because of the job losses. Really? The taxpayers should continue to fund building tanks we don't use or need anymore just to protect those jobs?

Unlimited, unfunded welfare to the defense industry...where's the outrage from the financial "conservatives"?

Jobs are important, very important. But there's so much that truly needs to be done, rebuild our own infrastructure, educate our children, we all know the long list of actual needs....why are we wasting so much on unnecessary spending while we continue to allow our country to self destruct?

There's only outrage when jobs are lost in the defense industry or the financial industry. Why? Why are these the jobs that should be saved at all costs?

The long term unemployed and under employed are blamed for their desperate situation and told to just get a job, any job....it's your fault you're unemployed....you must adapt to working harder and longer for less. Only the financial sector and defense industry should be immune to this new normal??? Makes no sense whatsoever.....

Somehow the left will twist and turn this obvious result of a scaled down military and blame the GOP, I can already hear the whining. However, after yesterday's presidential news conference where he indicated the "private sector" is doing ok, was a subtle acknowledgement of these mass layoffs. More than likely many already have gotten the message and are searching for other employment venues, I hope.

I was wondering the same thing about you.

Everyone gets to have an opinion. As your rants indicate, not all of those opinions are based on knowledge of the facts. Would you consider it possibly important to keep the one and only factory capable of producing our current main battle tank open for business, albeit at a reduced production rate? That's not the sort of item that can be made just anywhere. It involves a lot of specialized heavy equipment.

Layoffs are bound to happen. Defense related facilties have a higher percentage of vets employed also. Sort of counteracts the "hire a vet" initiative to some extent.

We don't have a National Defense, we have a National Offensive. Can you think of a country ready to attack us. I didn't think so, It's people like you and your war mongering that use half the nations yearly budget on war. When someone directly becomes a threat, and I'm talking to us, not the 70 countries we think we have to protect, then it's different. As for Israel, we've given them enough equipment to have the world's 4th largest military. So they can defend themselves. I get so tired of Republican "the sky is falling" rhetoric. i feel for the families of 9/11 and all of the losses, however i am not convinced we didnt allow it to happen. all the terrorists were on a list, and still allowed to board the planes. we are spending half our budget on the military. we have bases in almost every country, why? who made us the keeper? should be the UN with all countries equally involved, especially when war is involved. you should question why we have fought communisum for decades only to sell our jobs and country to china. why spend so much money when we can destroy the world 1,000 times over. 20 billion in this years budget for nuclear, we have enough destructive forces already. vietnam, afganastin, iraqi and all of the current BS has been a failure. no country will invade us as we have more private guns in capable hands to defend our homeland. i do believe that in times of peace we are only to have a militia and no standing army. when i go to the airport, as well as you, why are we considered a threat? they know who you are but refuse to profile the real problems. this whole mess was contrived to futher suppress us to more and more control. cameras at every intersection, drones, internet spying and i could go on. we are turning into a state of repression with no end in sight. pepper spray peaceful demonstators, suppress any group that spouts the truth.
