'Saving Hope' Premiere: Coma Patient Haunts Fiancee At Hospital They Both Work At (VIDEO)

TV's latest Canadian import -- along the lines of "Rookie Blue" and "Flashpoint" -- brings yet another twist to the hospital drama. Erica Durance ("Smallville") plays Alex, a plucky doctor who's engaged to Charles, the chief of surgery played by Michael Shanks ("Stargate SG-1"). "Saving Hope" (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on NBC) chronicles the enduring power of their love under the most trying of circumstances.

On the one hand, it wants to be what "Grey's Anatomy" is, but on the other hand, it had to add a supernatural twist to keep viewers intrigued. See, on their way to get married, Alex and Charles were in a car accident, and Charles wound up in a coma. So now, while Alex is making her rounds, Charles is haunting the halls of the hospital.

Like Jennifer Love Hewitt's Melinda Gordon on "Ghost Whisperer," he can talk to people who have passed on, or in some cases are just unconscious. And he can talk to the woman he loves, even though she can't hear him. So sometimes he just talks to the audience as a sort of spectral narrator. It's all very weird, but could offer soapy fun for some viewers.
