Barack Obama Courts Black Vote With New Radio Ad

Obama Campaign To Black Voters: 'We’ve Got Your Back'

President Barack Obama's re-election campaign will launch its first national radio ad targeting African Americans on Tuesday, according to a report by The Grio.

The 60-second spot, titled "We've Got Your Back," looks to reignite voter passion for the nation's first black president, recalling his historic election in 2008.

“Four years ago we made history,” says the narrator. “Now it’s time to move forward and finish what we started together. We have to show the president we have his back."

The ad then runs through a series of clips taken from past Obama speeches, in which the president makes promises on familiar themes like education and health care.

“I refuse to pay for another millionaire’s tax cut by kicking children off of Head Start programs, asking students to pay more for college, or eliminating health insurance for millions of poor and elderly and disabled Americans on Medicaid,” Obama says in one of the clips.

Obama has an 88 percent approval rating among black voters, the highest of any subgroup. But with the black unemployment rate at 14 percent -- nearly twice that of the national average -- voter turnout is far from guaranteed this November.

The Grio reports that the ad will run on nationally syndicated radio shows popular with black audiences, such as the "Tom Joynor Morning Show" and "The Steve Harvey Show."

The Obama campaign expects to release more details about the ad Tuesday. Listen to it here.
