Navy Band At Navy Memorial: HuffPost DC Top 5 For June 12

TOP 5 FOR TUESDAY, JUNE 12

1. Concerts On The Avenue At Navy Memorial
The United States Navy Band and Navy Ceremonial Guard returns for their summer concert series. On select Tuesday evenings throughout summer some of our nation's finest will perform a wide variety of music. If tunes aren't your thing, the Navy Drill Team will demonstrate their close order drill, coordination and timing, quite an impressive feat. 8 p.m., all ages, no cover

2. Against Me! At Fillmore Silver Spring
While Against Me! is just the opening act for The Cult, they're the reason this show should be considered. The recent announcement of Tom Gabel becoming Laura Gabel will change the shape of punk to come for the indefinite future. This is a good thing. 8 p.m., all ages, $32

3. Pop-Up Paladar At Cuba Libre
This three night only collaboration will include a four-course pre fixe menu from Chef Guillermo of Cuba Libre and Chef Alain of Doctor Cafe in Havana, Cuba. 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., all ages, $45

4. SpeakeasyDC At Town
Tonight's theme is "Jekyll and Hyde: Stories about the dark and light of human nature." General topics like this one tend to make for some interesting submissions. 8 p.m., 21+, $15

5. Virtuoso Society: Musical Mixer at Recording Industry Association of America
It doesn't matter if you're the next big thing if no one knows who you are. Musicians take note, get good at mingling. 6 p.m., all ages, $10

TOP 5 FOR THE NEXT 5 DAYS

Wednesday, June 13
Heart of A Lion: Streets of Kingston Exhibition
at Montserrat House
This new show from Joshua Coogan highlights the less touristy aspects of Jamaica. The opening will include a DJ set from Eric Hilton, a visit by Ziggy Marley and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to HIV programs through the MAC AIDS Fund.

Thursday, June 14
Second Annual DC Flag Day Celebration
at Dupont Circle, Eighteenth Street Lounge
Celebrate the irony of Flag Day in D.C. with a rally in Dupont followed by a party at Eighteenth Street Lounge. Residents are encouraged to show off their three-star tattoos and paraphernalia in the Circle before heading to the party with performances from Bluebrain, Jonny Grave and more.

Friday, June 15
The Beach Boys
at Merriweather Post Pavilion
Who thought Brian Wilson would be touring? In 2012? Wow. We're not saying this will be a transcending performance, but it will be something to check off your bucket list.

Saturday, June 16
Teen Battle of The Bands 2012
at Artisphere
This all ages event is being recommended because of the sheer enthusiasm kids in high school have for music. We'd rather see four teens stumble and try to nail a Black Sabbath cover than see four elderly musicians that are Black Sabbath.

Sunday, June 17
DC Record Fair
at Fillmore Silver Spring
The Father's Day edition of the record fair will be special because you can buy vinyl from various vendors without having to travel store to store. Is there a better way to celebrate dad than to buy records?
