'MasterChef': Competition Kicks Off With A Fire In The Kitchen; Two Eliminations (VIDEO)

'MasterChef': Fire In The Kitchen, 2 Sent Packing

With the contestants finally selected, "MasterChef" (Tue., 9 p.m. ET on Fox) finally got under way. And it all started with a fire. Does that mean it's going to be a hot season? Or does it mean it's going to be a season of kitchen mishaps?

When the fire erupted, several contestants looked on in surprise, but Gordon Ramsay quickly took control of the situation. Here's a guy who's been around a few kitchens in his day. It's certainly not the first pan fire he's ever come across. Aside from the profanities -- which really only mean that he's there -- Ramsay was calm and collected as he removed the pan and put out the fire.

It was definitely a tense night, as the first competition of the season turned out to be an elimination. Ryan, Samantha and Scott had their dishes selected for looking the worst, meaning the judges would have to taste them. While all three got poor grades, it was Samantha who had to turn in her apron so soon after receiving it.

Felix won the challenge, giving him control over the next one, which saw the other contestants cooking a dish that intimidates judge Joe Bastianich. After serving up Italian Risotto, one more would leave the competition.

David and Frank came out on top, earning them spots as team competition in the next round. The bottom three dishes were prepared by Dave, Helene and Tali. But it was Dave who had to say farewell, leaving sixteen vying for the title.

See who goes home next on "MasterChef," Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
