MTV Launching New Talk Show With Nikki Glaser And Sara Schaefer, New York Comedians

Hot Podcast Coming To MTV

MTV will launch a new talk show this fall starring comedians Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer, currently titled "The Nikki and Sara Show," according to TV Guide.

The show comes after the success of Schaefer and Glaser's weekly podcast, "You Had To Be There," which features the two women chatting about the perils of everyday life with each other and a guest, typically from the world of comedy.

Unlike the podcast, however, the show will feature the duo in comedy sketches, performing pre-written jokes and conducting more traditional interviews.

Glaser and Schaefer, who both tour the country performing stand-up comedy, began recording the podcast in Schaefer's Brooklyn apartment after they met in 2010. But soon, the pair will move from Clinton Hill to Times Square, where their new show will be filmed in the former "Total Request Live" studio.

"I'm beyond excited," Schaefer told The Huffington Post in an email. "I think what I'm most excited about is getting to work every day with my bestie Nikki and bring our vibe to the MTV audience. My earliest memory of watching television was MTV, and I can't believe I get to be a part of it now."

She added: "Also, I'm pretty sure this means Nikki and I will get to make out with Zac Efron, simultaneously."

"The Nikki and Sara Show" is the latest entry in the trend of comedy podcasts transitioning to television. "Comedy Bang! Bang!" and "The Nerdist Podcast" have been adapted to TV shows, and "WTF with Marc Maron" will serve as the centerpiece of a scripted IFC show starring Maron in 2013.

It also will join the growing ranks of this summer's cable talk shows. FX is airing runs of two new shows, "Brand X With Russell Brand" and "Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell," this summer, and Adult Swim recently debuted "The Eric Andre Show," which is less of a talk show and more of a nightmare-ish comedy program disguised as an absurd talk show.

The show will air once a week at 11 p.m. on an as-yet-undetermined day. This means that if the show airs Monday through Thursday, it will go head-to-head with "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "Conan" and "Chelsea Lately," which frequently post comparable ratings to the network talk shows "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Late Show with David Letterman."

No further details have been announced, but Schaefer and Glaser seem to be embracing the MTV legacy. Schaefer told us that her dream guests would be "Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and of course, Sway."

Regular listeners of the show would likely be thrilled to see Timberlake as a guest -- he was the subject of their very first on-air conversation, as well as a popular viral PSA they made called "Justin Timberlake, Make Music Again."
