#AlternativesToVagina Twitter Hashtag Invites Users To Create Euphemisms For Female Anatomy

LOOK: Clever Euphemisms For 'Vagina'

Language can be a funny thing, and, as it turns out, book bloggers have a pretty good sense of humor, too.

Rebecca Schinsky of HuffPost Books content partner Book Riot, started a pretty amusing string of Twitter replies after publicly pondering, "If we're not supposed to call it a vagina, what *are* we supposed to call it?"

The associate editor was referencing news involving two female Michigan lawmakers who were banned from speaking on the House floor after making "emotional remarks" in opposition to an anti-abortion bill earlier this week.

Rep. Lisa Brown (West Bloomfield) shared her thoughts on the incident with The Huffington Post's Laura Bassett: "It was an anti-choice bill regarding abortion, which obviously involves a vagina, so, you know, I don't know what word I'm supposed to use otherwise."

Schinsky took on that challenge providing a list of euphemisms for the female anatomy part, and her Twitter hashtag #alternativestovagina inspired plenty of other users to scour their brains for the most clever names for the "temple of awesomeness."

And although a spokesperson for House Majority Leader Jase Bolger (R-Marshall) said it was the women's delivery, not their word-choice, that barred them from the floor, Internet users made it their mission to swoop in with safe words for "vagina."

Our friends at Jezebel have also brainstormed plenty of "Republican Approved" euphemisms that might be less "offensive" than the V-word. And editors at XOJane had a bit of fun with the term, too.

Here's what Twitter users had to say. (You'll never find these in a thesaurus.)
