The summer is hot, way too hot for turning on the oven. But that doesn't mean we want to miss out on homemade desserts for three whole months. Well, it turns out you don't have to. Say hello to the mug cake.

Mug cakes are exactly what they sound like; they're cakes made in regular coffee mugs. And besides their quirk factor, the real appeal is that they can be made in five minutes or less, without even having to turn on the oven -- just microwave them.

Even if you're a baking purist, you've got to admit there's something pretty amazing about enjoying a freshly made cake with such minimal effort.
