The New York Times will team up with BuzzFeed to cover the 2012 conventions, the company announced on Monday.
In an effort to expand its video coverage of both the GOP and Democratic National Conventions, the Times and Buzzfeed will partner on segments featuring Times Opinion writers, columnists, and members of the BuzzFeed political team, including editor-in-chief Ben Smith. BuzzFeed will also contribute to the Times' biweekly TimesCast Politics live show.
It's a notable move for both parties — a major affirmation of BuzzFeed's move towards more original journalism, and a signal from the Times that it is willing to reach deeper into the new media sphere.
The 2012 GOP Convention will take place in Tampa Bay, Florida on August 27-30, 2012. The 2012 Democratic National Convention will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 4-6, 2012.
