Dear Mr. President
I was wondering if you could take a moment out of your busy day to answer a few questions I have about the Constitution of the United States?
Does the 1st Amendment give me Freedom of Religion?
Does the 14th Amendment give me the same rights and privelages of any other American citizen?
I am real confused cause it seems that Christians are telling me what I should and should not do with my life and I am not a Christian. And these same Christians seem to think that because of their beliefs i should not have the same civil rights and privelages as them because I don't live by their religious rules.

Forget about anti-gay pastors. I find little, if anything, in common between Jesus and any man that is paid to preach, and that supports a religion that sets him up as the sole interpreter of the Bible, and sets him and his church as the sole broker and arbiter of who gets saved and who doesn't.

Every time I read about the hate from Religious Nutcases against Homosexuals I lose more and more of my faith. And let me tell you, there is not much left in me. And I am still better than any of those hateful people. Born gay, but you are not born hateful. Someone taught you.

Christians spend a lot of time on here arguing with people. Post after post, "Jesus this"- "the Bible that." I've heard all the "when I was saved" stories from them. I don't recall, *ever*, hearing a "so, this Christian guy just kept spamming me with bible messages and his opinions about stuff, and like, BAM, I realized I wanted to go to Heaven and stuff."

Middle-class Christians with their shiny lap tops have chosen to abstain from the "good works" or "charity" portion of Christianity, and seem to spend a lot of time listening to the sound of their own voice or having BBQ pool parties with all their white middle-class Christian friends.

I don't believe in Jesus, but I have to empathize with people who might use faith as something to give them hope or strength in life. I can accept that for what it is. That said, the people who have converted to Christianity or Buddhism have done so by the example of charitable, selfless, and kind people -- through love, joy, etc.

Not through this "blah blah blah blah Matthew 5:2"

Human beings have a psychological disposition to confront and mitigate the suffering of others and because of this compassion is a specific Christian virtue. Within a Christian context, as in many religions, compassion underscores the traditional works of mercy, both corporal and spiritual.
This guy needs his 501(c) taken away for giving Jesus a bad rap.

Every generation of Christians thinks that their particular interpretation of the Bible is correct. To this particular generation I have only one question... Why do you think that after nearly 2,000 years of Homosexuality/Gay Marriage = Bad that all of a sudden you've figured out that the Bible and Jesus actually isn't against that?

It'd be like reading Twilight for thousands of years and finally finding out that Edward wasn't a vampire. Face it, the Bible is a bad book and instead of constantly changing it you should drop it.

For those who read the Bible as mythology, getting rid of it is not an option. Its absence will only serve to put gaping holes in how the religion that came out of these writings has shaped the history, culture and language of the western world over the past three thousand years.

I don't believe we should eliminate the Bible entirely. It should be viewed as a historical and cultural piece that says something about the various ancient civilizations in which it was written. Not to mention, some of the stories in it are entertaining, gorgeous, and horrific.

That being said, I do not feel that it is the literal "Word of God." It was written by various men who felt that God had enlightened them and wanted to record their interpretation of it. These laws may have worked for their primitive society, but they cannot work in a secularized, melting pot society where each person has a different world view and understanding of spirituality, humanity, and how the universe works in general. Not to mention Christ himself did not say anything about the subject at hand. One can even turn to other cultural views; ancient Japan for example, had no prejudice against homosexuality.

As a Christian, I want to look past all these hypocrites who spread hatred towards their fellow man and justify it with outdated laws of an ancient culture and focus on how to show compassion, tolerance, and understanding. I'm just appalled by how modern organized religions have treated people (although this shouldn't come as a surprise judging by what the world religions have done for centuries) and want to be a better example than them.

This is all just my two cents on the matter; I'm not expecting it to have any influence.

I was actually looking at this when I studied Norse literature. All the angels in the Bible are male, a majority of whom came in peace, and all the Valkyries are female and very war-loving. Makes me wonder what sort of gender dynamics Heaven would really have.
