Paul Thomas Anderson's 'The Master' Gets Hopelessly Inquisitive Second Trailer (VIDEO)

Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master," the director's first film since "There Will Be Blood" in 2007, would like to introduce you to its title ruler: Philip Seymour Hoffman's Lancaster Dodd.

"I am a writer, a doctor, a nuclear physicist, a theoretical philosopher," Hoffman's mustachioed Dodd says to Joaquin Phoenix. "But above all, I am a man. A hopelessly inquisitive man. Like you."

In development for years, "The Master" was originally thought to be Anderson's treatise on Scientology and its founder, L. Ron Hubbard. That angle has been downplayed in the last year, but the story still sounds familiar: in the 1950s, a religious maverick (Hoffman) sees his organization gain a foothold in America. Phoenix plays Hoffman's young cohort, while Amy Adams and Laura Dern provide onscreen support. As with "There Will Be Blood," Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood penned the score.

Some footage from "The Master" debuted at Cannes, but as long as Anderson keeps leaking these 90-second teasers online every few weeks between now and the film's Oct. 12 release date, everyone should be happy. If not, you could always linger at bus stations for pleasure.
