Rachel Maddow: Scott Brown Is 'Making Stuff Up' About Me, MSNBC (VIDEO)

WATCH: Maddow Goes After Scott Brown

Rachel Maddow reignited her long-running feud with Sen. Scott Brown on Tuesday.

The impetus was the back-and-forth between Brown and Vicki Kennedy, the widow of the late Ted Kennedy. She had invited Brown and his Democratic challenger, Elizabeth Warren, to debate at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston. Brown said he would only do so if she agreed to stay neutral in the race and if MSNBC would not be the host of the debate.

This second demand was a strange one, since, as the New York Times noted, MSNBC was never formally asked to participate. Kennedy had seemingly floated it as an idea.

It was enough for Maddow to get fired up -- especially considering that she has some skin in the game. She started by calling Brown "weird" and "a really strange U.S. Senator." Saying that she knew she was using "personal" language, Maddow recounted the episode in 2010 when Brown raised money off of the entirely fictional idea that she was going to run against him in 2012.

"I've never run for anything and I never will," she said. "He did not care. He just made that up, he raised money off it and he never took it back."

She then turned to the current debate flap:

MSNBC is not the host of the debate. MSNBC was never going to be the host of the debate. MSNBC never even got asked about hosting the debate. But Scott Brown demands that MSNBC be removed as the host of this debate! And please send him money for him to run against his Senate opponent, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

Maddow wondered if other people were having to "deal with a sitting U.S. Senator constantly making stuff up" about them.
