David Beckham, Jeremy Lin And Eli Manning Join Biden And Obama In Anti-Dating Violence PSA

Beckham, Lin And Manning Star In White House Anti-Dating Violence PSA

A host of athletes are joining forces with Vice President Joe Biden to raise awareness around dating violence, with the release of a new public service announcement on Thursday.

The PSA, part of Biden's 1is2Many initiative that launched last year, features President Barack Obama, soccer star David Beckham, two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning and NBA sensation Jeremy Lin, among others, calling on men to step up and help put a stop to violence against women.

"The worst abuse of power is when a man raises his hand to hurt a woman," says Biden in the video. "We all have to take responsibility."

The White House held an official launch event for the PSA, attended by Biden, Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett, White House Adviser on Violence Against Women Lynn Rosenthal, Jimmy Rollins of the Philadelphia Phillies, David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays and Andy Katz of ESPN. Rollins and Katz also appear in the one-minute video.

Biden's initiative was developed in response to alarming statistics on the rates of dating violence and sexual assault. Over the last year, one in 10 teens has reported being deliberately physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend, while one in five women in college has suffered from sexual assault.

The PSA will air this summer on the ESPN Networks, the FOX Sports Networks, MLB Network and NFL Network.
