Dr. Robert Rainey Death Prompts $50,000 Reward For Information (VIDEO)

In an emotional press conference Thursday morning, Los Angeles Times columnist James Rainey pleaded with the public to help find his brother's killer.

Standing near the Venice Boulevard office where chiropractor Dr. Robert Rainey was found severly beaten May 31, James described his brother as a vigorous, athletic man "full of life."

"He was big, he was strong, but he was also very gentle. He was a really kind person," recalled Rainey. "It's just a terrible thing that happened to him, and whoever did this is not the kind of person that any of us want out on the street."

Noting the foot traffic in the area, Rainey reasoned that somebody, somewhere may have seen a clue that could lead to the culprit.

Councilman Paul Koretz told NBC LA that the City Council was offering $50,000 for information on the case. The City Council had approved a motion to set aside money for a reward last week.

"It's a tremendous loss, and anything anyone can do to help us figure out what happened to him, we'd really appreciate," said Rainey.

Dr. Rainey was found lying on the floor by a patient who was showing up for an appointment at around 8 a.m., reports Culver City Patch.

Dr. Rainey had suffered severe head trauma that included a broken jaw and missing teeth, according to CBS2/KCAL9. He died shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Investigators told CBS2/KCAL9 that there had been several robberies in the area lately, and that Rainey's wallet was missing.

Dr. Rainey will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He would hire or give money to the homeless who lived near his practice, reports the Los Angeles Times, and his patients who couldn't afford the fees could still count on treatment.

He was the son of late actor Ford Rainey.
