DTW Free Wi-Fi Deal Approved To Bring Limited No-Cost Internet Service To Detroit Metropolitan Airport

Delta Hub Makes Free Wi-Fi Deal

Travelers considering a stop at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) will have one more incentive to fly starting this fall: free wireless internet access.

The Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) Board approved a deal with the airport tech firm Boingo Wireless Wednesday to provide the no-cost service along with a premium subscription based option. Travelers using the free option will be able to connect for 30 minutes after watching a 30-second video advertisement.

“Free Wi-Fi in the terminals is by far the most requested amenity by our customers,” WCAA Interim CEO Tom Naughton said in a release.

The new service is expected to triple the wireless usage at the airport, which will soon begin upgrading its system infrastructure to accommodate the new user demand.

The service will launch in September and cover both of DTW's passenger terminals. The airport is Michigan's busiest, offering more than 1,200 flights a day. Last year it served over 32 million air travelers.
