Swinging Richards, Gay Male Strip Club, Sues North Miami Beach To Allow Dancers To Perform Nude

A North Miami Beach-based gay male strip club has filed a lawsuit against the city after its dancers were required to keep their G-strings on.

As The Miami Herald is reporting, the owner of Swinging Richards, which opened as an all-nude men's club last fall, slammed the city's decision to insist male dancers remain at least partially clothed as a double standard.

"Female dancers have been allowed to dance nude and serve alcohol for years but as soon as a gay club is introduced the city has wanted to enforce old ordinances," owner C.B. Jones is quoted as saying in a news release announcing the lawsuit.

He continued:

"Does everyone want to see nude male dancers onstage? Unequivocally no. But do they have as much right to view male performers as heterosexual patrons have to view female performers. Is the City’s reaction to nude male performances fair? Is this Equal protection or is this discrimination against gender or sexual preference? What's good for the goose is good for the gander."

Interestingly, as NBC Miami notes, North Miami Beach's two female strip clubs in the city feature all-nude performances and, as such, have been violating the city's ordinance prohibiting full nudity and alcohol in the same establishment for years -- a fact which hasn't gone unnoticed by Jones.

"It’s discrimination...they’re picking on us because we're showing full nudity, male nudity," he told the news channel.

City attorney Darcee Siegel said that lawsuit was reflective of a larger problem with all of the establishments: "The bottom line is we have adult entertainment facilities and establishments and we have ordinances, and they're not being complied with. They have a choice to either try to have the ordinance changed or comply with it."
