Cee Lo Green's Cockatoo Draws Ire From Animal Rights Group

Cee Lo's New Sidekick Has Some Very Mad

Cee Lo Green has always had a flair for the dramatic, but a recent decision has landed him in some hot water. Animal rights groups are urging him to reconsider plans to ditch his cat Purrfect for Lady, a Moluccan cockatoo.

As a judge and coach on "The Voice," Green became known for always having the white feline on his lap. With its very own Twitter account, the cat even enjoyed a bit of internet fame. But the "F--k You" singer has decided to swap out the cat for the show's new season.

"Lady's name says it all," Green told People. "She's my little lady with a big opinion. Sometimes whispers inappropriateness in my ear, but always ladylike."

The only problem? Turns out Moluccan cockatoos are not only an endangered species, but make for horrible pets. According to Born Free, an animal rights group, the birds have a tendency to self-mutilate when kept as pets. They often turn to plucking or other forms of self-harm.

"Moluccan cockatoos are beautiful, intelligent animals but they are very challenging to care for especially in the long term, and are prone to considerable welfare problems," a rep for the organization told TMZ.

Will Cee Lo reconsider? TMZ has already reached out to his folks for comment.

CORRECTION: This post previously referred to Cee Lo as the host of "The Voice" and has since been corrected to reflect that he is a judge/coach.
