Thomas Weller, San Diego Highwayman, Gets Help Fixing His Rescue Car (VIDEO)

Thomas Weller of San Diego is known as a Good Samaritan. The career mechanic took to patrolling the freeway in a "Ghostbusters"-style rescue car several years ago, and was profiled by CBS News for their "On the Road" series.

But after helping numerous people out of flats, overheated engines and other roadside crises -- asking only that they pay his kindness forward -- the San Diego highwayman is in need of a little assistance himself.

Shortly after he was profiled, the CBS reports that Weller got into an accident when someone cut him off. The collision totalled his special vehicle. On camera, the distraught Weller was brought to tears with frustration, stating that he was not able to repair it.

But Weller, who never charged for his services, doesn't have to face his misfortune alone. After CBS wrote about his plight, an Indiegogo funding campaign for his benefit was set up with a goal of $10,000.

The modest project, which was started by Pratt film student Brandon Brown, would help Weller "fix his rescue vehicle so he can continue helping others."

This incidence of crowd-sourced charity follows an outpouring of donations for bus monitor Karen Klein, who, the New York Daily News reported received more than $600,000 from supporters after a video in which she was bullied by school children went viral.
