Fan Dies After Watching Euro 2012 For 11 Straight Days

Chinese soccer fan Jiang Xiaoshan passed away last Tuesday after watching every moment of the Euro 2012 for 11 straight days without any sleep, according to Sina.com (via the Daily Mail). He was 26.

According to multiple reports, the mix of alcohol and tobacco combined with exhaustion led to the his death.

Friends of Xiaoshan were reportedly shocked by the news and claimed he lived a "relatively healthy life," according to Fox Sports.

"We would rest occasionally but he watched every day and would not miss a single match," a friend said, via The Sun.

With Euro 2012 being played in Poland and the Ukraine, Xiaoshan was said to have stayed up every night watching the games while going to work the next day. Many matches kicked off shortly before 9 p.m. in the host nations, meaning that Xiaoshan was beginning his nightly Euro 2012 vigil at his home in Changsha just before 3 a.m. local time.

The story of Xiaoshan is be the second reported Euro 2012-related death. An Irish soccer fan named James Nolan was found dead in a canal in northern Poland in what was reported as an apparent accident. He had been in Poland to follow Ireland throughout the tournament.
